The Hollywood bio of Captain Jack Randall (18th Air Force Base Unit, aka the First Motion Picture Unit) says he was born in 1904, to perfectly ordinary parents in Southern California. It says he joined the USAAF hoping to be a pilot, but it was determined he'd be more useful in training films. But then, who can trust anything a Hollywood bio says?

But it is true that after he appeared on a recruiting poster, enlistment rates shot way up.
